A San Tommaso

il quale, con predicazione evangelica, e allo scopo di diffondere nel mondo la religione di Cristo Salvatore, istruì Parti, Medi, Persiani e Indiani.
 

Ciò gli valse la corona del martirio, e da Edessa (Mesopotamia), dove le sue reliquie erano state trasferite, egli venne poi, con miracol divino, traslato nella città di Ortona.
 

Gli ortonesi, pii e devoti, per un tal patrono e protettore, su esortazione del loro vescovo Alessandro Boccabarile, appartenente a un’illustre famiglia piacentina, posero questa pietra in onore dell’Apostolo, per la gloria della città e in memoria del vescovo.

À Saint Thomas,

lequel, par la prédication évangélique e dans le but de répandre dans le monde la religion du Christ Sauveur, instruisit les Parthes, les Mèdes, les Perses et les Indiens.
 

Cela lui valut la couronne du martyre ; puis, d’Édesse en Mésopotamie, où ses reliques avaient été transférées, il fut, par un miracle divin, translaté en la cité d’Ortona.
 

Les habitants d’Ortona, pieux et dévots envers un tel patron et protecteur, sur l’exhortation de leur évêque Alexandre Boccabarile, issu d’une illustre famille de Plaisance, posèrent cette pierre en l’honneur de l’Apôtre, pour la gloire de la ville et en mémoire du prélat.

To Saint Thomas,

who, through evangelical preaching and for the purpose of spreading the religion of Christ the Savior throughout the world, instructed the Parthians, the Medes, the Persians, and the Indians.
 

This earned him the crown of martyrdom; and from Edessa in Mesopotamia, where his relics had been transferred, he was later, by divine miracle, translated to the city of Ortona.
 

The people of Ortona, pious and devoted to such a patron and protector, at the exhortation of their Bishop, Alessandro Boccabarile, of an illustrious family from Piacenza, placed this stone in honor of the Apostle, for the glory of the city and in memory of the prelate.
